MiniGuide to the MapBasic Window
This new version (for MI 5.5) is a PDF file (>160 pages, ~650Kb, zipped ~500Kb), in an easy to read on screen format. It makes full use of bookmarks for overall navigation and of links from Table of contents and Alphabetic Index.
The MINIGUIDE to MAPBASIC WINDOW for MapInfo Professional is intended mainly for those who do not own MapBasic, who do not have the complete documentation or who do not want to spend time compiling the necessary codes.
MI came out with its first official documentation on the MB Window as a chapter of an additional volume (MapFaqs) distributed with the upgrade to version 4.1. It has been incorporated in the MapInfo User's Guide, version 5, as Chapter 20 'Using the MapBasic Window' but it is still sowewhat limited and is not systematically updated.
Besides presenting the main elements of the language with the parameters required for this special use, the MiniGuide concentrates on ways to use the MB Window (scripts, WOR...), as well as on equivalencies between menu items and MB Window commands, and finally on tips and examples.
This MiniGuide fills a gap between full fledged MB programming and plain menu driven applications, as well as between official documentation and specialized publications.
Much information contained in the MiniGuide can also be used in the MI requesters where expression building is allowed (SQL, update...); see also 'My (MI) Bag o'Tricks' chapter 7 - EXPANDING FUNCTION USE IN MI REQUESTERS
